Objectives:  At the conclusion of the lecture, participants will be able to,
1. Identify several new rapid molecular platforms and their capabilities
2. Interpret molecular test results
3. Develop problem solving and critical thing skills related to molecular assays

Odd Bugs, Odd Drugs                    Dr. Alan Junkins

Objectives:  At the conclusion of the lecture, participants will be able to,
1.   Understand the regulatory status of susceptibility test commonly performed in clinical microbiology laboratories.
2.  Describe strategies for providing susceptibility data on unusual bacterial isolates.
3.  List methods that can be used to provide susceptibility results for antimicrobials that are not FDA-approved on standard antimicrobial susceptibility testing platforms.

Vector-borne illnesses – Clinical Cases part 2          Dr. Morgan H. McCoy

Objectives:  At the conclusion of the lecture, participants will be able to,
1.  Discuss the presentation and other clinical manifestations of each infectious agent introduced.
2.  Describe the appropriate diagnostic testing required for each infectious agent introduced
3.  Identify the limitations of the tests utilized in diagnosing each infectious agent introduced.

Nipah Virus: The Next Emerging Threat to Global Public Health     Dr. Ryan Relich

Objectives:  At the conclusion of the lecture, participants will be able to,
1.       Define epidemiological and biological attributes of Nipah and Hendra viruses, including viral transmission and basic henipavirus biology.
2.       Identify signs and symptoms of Nipah virus and Hendra virus infection and describe the pathophysiology of henipavirus infections in bats, pigs, and primates, including humans.
3.       Describe current henipavirus surveillance mesaures, diagnostic testing methods, treatment strategies, and preventive measure.

2:30-3:30PM        1.0 Contact Hour - Level: Basic

Adventures in Preparedness – Clinical Cases      Dr. Vaneet Arora

Objectives:  At the conclusion of the lecture, participants will be able to,
1.  Discuss varied clinical presentations associated with select agents
2.  Describe growth and morphology characteristics of some of the select agents that may be encountered in a clinical microbiology laboratory setting.
3. Identify the algorithm/steps to rule out a select agent in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
