  • FOR THOSE LIVING OR WORKING IN KENTUCKY- your KY Division of Laboratory Services (KDLS) is sponsoring your attendance. This registration also includes a SCACM membership through the end of 2022 AND a SCACM 1-year membership through the end of 2023. Ask your manager/supervisor to look for email from KDLS with the registration code.

    Must possess an ACTIVE Lifetime, 5-Year, 3-Year, or 1-Year SCACM Membership to obtain this discounted rate.

Red Flags waving: A Preparedness unknown case

This is a case-based presentation that will address how to improve safety when potentially handling dangerous organisms, possibly select agents, in the clinical laboratory


OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify Gram stain and growth features that should signal the need for enhanced safety protocols for a given culture
  • List the added safety practices that should be employed for the evaluation of these potential pathogens
  • Describe where laboratorians should look to find the select agent protocols needed to evaluate potential agents of bioterrorism because they pose increased risks to the labs that isolate them in culture

  • Describe the history of Candida auris as it has emerged as a significant infectious disease pathogen
  • List the diagnostic tools that can be used to identify Candida auris from clinical and surveillance specimens
  • The epidemiologic features of disease and colonization of patients currently seen in the ongoing emergence of Candida auris worldwide.

  • Proper packaging and shipping of specimens to send to the KY State Public Health Lab.
  • Overview of Outreach for ease of completion of requisitions and report retrieval.
